About Music In The Round

Music in the Round was established to promote chamber music in Sheffield. Our unique, informal and informative style of performance has always been our hallmark. Excellence and access are central to all we do. In Sheffield we promote around 75 concerts in our Autumn and Spring series and our annual May Festival, all at the Studio Theatre at the Crucible in Sheffield.

From our foundation as the Sheffield Chamber Music Festival in 1984, The Lindsay String Quartet was our resident ensemble until their retirement in 2005. From September 2005, the newly formed Ensemble 360, a group of world class musicians from across the globe, took up residence in Sheffield to be at the core of all our activities and the heart of the musical community of South Yorkshire.

Our Mission Statement

Music has the power to change and enrich people's lives. Music in the Round exists to promote the best in international chamber music and thrill audiences with the unique power and intensity of music played in an intimate setting.

We are committed to the residency of world class musicians in Sheffield; to enrich the cultural life of the city and to increase music-making opportunities for its young people.

We are the UK's leading promoter of chamber music outside of London and our aim is to build audiences regionally and nationally through touring. We belive classical music is for all, so our programmes embrace a breadth of music in order to expand people's musical horizons. Our ethos is to present high quality concerts and education experiences at affordable prices, marked by a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
